I met Carol Taylor!

What an exciting evening!!!!!

Award-winning quilt artist, Carol Taylor, is in Whitehorse.   She is here to do a several day workshop and tonight she gave a wonderful talk at the Beringia Interpretive Centre.
Carol is funny and most inspiring.
My oldest daughter came with me, whether it was to keep me company or because she was really interested, I don't know.  What I do know is that she loved it too.  There was much hitting of my arm and "Mom that quilt is so cool!!!".  I looked over once and noticed she had whipped out her little notebook and was taking notes.  Gosh I love her LOL.
Carol took us from her first quilt, through those early years.  We had a tour of her studio (oh I want to live there!!!) and a peek at her life.  Finally we got an indepth look at how she has evolved and now creates her contemporary quilts, including a chance to touch and examine her quilts in real life.

Oh my!!!

I want to make something with sparkles and shiny thread, velvet and satin.

I wish I was taking part in the workshop...those ladies are going to have so much fun.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Wishing you all a wonderful day today.

Things that I am thankful for:

my family is healthy and happy (most of the time!);
although it may be a bit leaky in places, we have a roof over our heads;
there's oil in the tank to heat our home;
our pantry is full  and we have plenty of coffee;
and best of all today our yard is all sparkly clean with fresh fallen snow.

Have a good one everyone,
Vivian

October Colour Class

It's a new month and time for our second class in Colour.

First, let me remind you about our first class, which took place in September, it was all about Monochromatic.  I chose turquoise as my colour and picked a series of fabrics in that colour, in shades and tints.   I then found a block that I thought would showcase all (or as many) of the fabrics as I could.  It's called Twinkling Star and here is my finished block:

Oh I just love it!  Who knew I would love the blue so much, so not my usual colour.

Today was our second class and it was all about Analogous colours.  Analagous colours lay beside each other on the colour wheel.  Beside turquoise heading towards the greens is first aqua blue.  As the fabrics I found in that colour were very close to my turquoise (the colour shift was very subtle), I chose to skip that one move on to the next colour, aqua green and then blue green.  Below are the two rows of fabrics I chose in each of those colours.

Next we head in the opposite direction of the colour wheel (towards the blues).  Beside turquoise is cerulean blue and then blue.

Our homework for November's class is to bring in one completed quilt block (my twinkling star) using these analogous fabrics AND ALSO a second completed quilt block using these fabrics and then throwing in a small piece of fabric from the opposite side of the colour wheel.  Just a dash, just a hint.  So I'm off to go through my scraps to see what I have in an orange.  I like orange, there should be some in my basket somewhere.

After spending all that time sorting through fabrics and determining where they sit on the colour wheel, my head is spinning and I'm beat.  Whew!  Who knew how tiring all this thinking would be.

Have a great Saturday everyone!
