Cross Stitch Cardinal

I received this little kit from one of my co-workers for Christmas.  I'm not certain which co-worker as they placed it anonymously in my cubicle stocking!  Isn't that just the sweetest?

In the past, I've spent time on most of my days cross stitching.  As some of you know, before my working life and home life became too busy, I  worked a bit as a free lance designer.  Didn't make a lot of money but hey, I got published!  In the last couple of years I've discovered the world of quilting and have been thoroughly enjoying it.  I am a very tactile person, so touching fabric is very soothing for me.  It's also why I knit, I love the feel of those bulky wools sliding through my hands.  As long as the yarn feels good in my hands (along with wooden needles, gosh I love thick, wooden needles), I'll keep knitting.

This year, between the quilting and knitting, I have found that I have hardly cross stitched at all.  I believe I only managed to complete one project and that was for our annual ornament exchange that Elsue at 123 Stitch! hosts.

So while the holidays began, I looked at this little kit and decided that I would give it a try.  It's worked on plastic canvas, which is not a favourite of mine, however I decided what the heck, it's something small, it won't kill me!

What did I learn?  That I missed cross stitching.  It was very peaceful working through the stitches.

The best part?  I actually completed it!   It's been a while since I've stitched something for no reason, or without a deadline.  Just....because.

I'll admit it though, I still don't like plastic canvas.

Have a great day everyone, I feel the need to keep this creative streak going.  Where will the day find me and where will it find you?
